The Charly Gienau Memorial Alt Rock Guitar Scholarship was created to honor the memory, multiple talents, musical passion and dedication of former MI student Charly Gienau and has been awarded to Kevin Pohore.

Kevin comes to Musicians Institute from Brooklyn, New York with fifteen years of guitar playing experience and a specialization in Rock; and is currently enrolled in MI’s Online Guitar Program.

Upon learning of his award, Kevin shared that “Being here at MI means the world to me. When I learned that I could turn what I love into a career, this is where I wanted to be. I hope to diversify my music by applying new, exciting concepts from different genres into my playing. I also want to learn how to get my music out to the world to share it with others and hopefully inspire other musicians. I’ve had the luxury of meeting some great people in my life who have inspired me and I would like to give that back someday.”

He added, “I chose to study at MI because of its progressive curriculum and its modern approach on teaching music and the business. I felt that by studying here, I could learn from a plethora of talented professors who have very insightful, real life experience in many different aspects of music and the industry.”

When asked what winning the scholarship meant to him, Kevin stated, “Receiving this scholarship is honestly still kicking in. I am so honored to have been chosen for it. It is a big financial help for me and it is also very humbling being recognized for doing something that I love to do! Music is my life and attaining this scholarship has shown me that I can really do what I love and fulfill my dreams of becoming a professional musician.”

Kevin described his long term career goals as follows, “Ultimately, I want to create music with a group or a band in multiple genres with new sounds (that differ from what’s already been done so far); go on tours and explore the world. Most of all, I want to share my music with others and inspire people to do what they love.”

Everyone at MI congratulates Kevin on winning this prestigious award that supports the education and of a talented, evolving, and very deserving guitarist!

Special thanks to the family and friends of Charly Gienau for generously sponsoring this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Kevin with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.
