ANNOUNCING THE STEVE FOX MEMORIAL GUITAR SCHOLARSHIP at MUSICIANS INSTITUTE

Steve Fox

The Musicians Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Steve Fox Memorial Guitar Scholarship at Musicians Institute in honor of the memory and creative talents of MI (GIT) class of 1985 alumnus, Steve Fox.

The scholarship award of $5,000 will be applied as a tuition discount for the fall 2021 quarter.  Deadline to apply is Sept. 3rd, 2021. For complete scholarship details, and application, click HERE

The Steve Fox Memorial Guitar Scholarship is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a (new or currently enrolled) guitar student at MI for Fall 2021 who demonstrates overall versatility, creativity, passion for the instrument and the potential for developing their own unique voice in any genre(s) on the electric and/or acoustic guitar.

Steve Fox’s own experience as a guitar student at MI in 1984-1985, dramatically impacted the rest of his life. He was an avid guitarist, guitar teacher, luthier, guitar tech, and performer in several bands throughout his lifetime.

As an educator, Steve discusses his approach, and expresses a genuine love for the guitar and teaching which is clearly evident:

In 2017, Steve was invited to give a presentation at the Carmel Valley Library about guitar history and construction of various guitars, including a demonstration of his playing and singing on several songs:

He died instantly on October 1, 2020 in a tragic car accident at the age of 70.

His memory is being honored by the creation of this scholarship for a deserving student who embodies the qualities of creativity, versatility and passion for the guitar that were the hallmarks of Steve’s life.
