Spring 2019 Melodic Soloing Guitar Scholarship Winner: Geon Park

Musicians Institute and The Musicians Foundation are pleased to announce that Geon Park is the recipient of the Spring 2019 Melodic Soloing Guitar Scholarship.

Geon comes to MI’s Guitar Program from Korea with 11 years of playing experience and in possession of solid melodic soloing skills in multiple styles with a specialization in Fusion Rock, Alternative Rock and Ambient genres.

When asked why he chose to study at MI, Geon added “I’m self taught, so I wanted to immerse myself in a systematic study of Harmony and Theory. Most of all, I like the freedom to study many genres and musical styles at Musicians Institute.”

He describes his professional goals and aspirations as follows: “I want to be a successful, famous international guitarist.”

Everyone at MI congratulates Geon on winning this very prestigious scholarship award, and we welcome him as he begins his studies and the many great experiences ahead at MI!

2019 GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency

Spring 2019 President’s Award Vocal Scholarship Winner: Feiyang Ge

The 2019 President’s Award Vocal Scholarship has been awarded to current Musicians Institute Vocal Program student: Feiyang Ge.  She comes to MI by way of China, having earned the prestigious award with over ten years of singing experience and a strong demonstration of her musical skills and specialization in singing pop songs and ballads.

Describing her reasons for coming to MI, Feiyang states, “I first learned about MI from a really great friend of mine, who is a student from MI.   I began to research about the school, became fascinated by MI’s great musical environment and great teachers. The students are all actively involved in music together!

She sees her education as an important pathway to achieving her career goals of “being a great artist after I graduate from MI.  I want to be an independent musician and set up my own music studio. I will create my own unique music and expand the possibilities of the music industry through my own voice and music and let the world be filled with love. I want my fans to be loyal to my music (rather than focus on appearances and packaging of music).”

She shared her feelings about winning the scholarship as follows, “I didn’t think that I could win this scholarship, this is such a surprise to me!  I’m really grateful to win this scholarship, which gives me more confidence in my own voice and my performance abilities.  I will definitely work harder while studying at MI to achieve my goals.”

The Chairman of the Board || Welcome Hunter Scott

We are thrilled to announce that Hunter Scott will serve as the 3rd-ever Chairman of the Board for The Musicians Foundation.  Hunter is an exceptional leader and visionary in business and the music industry and we’re looking forward to working with him during his two-year term as Chair.

Hunter founded the highly successful Lafamos PR/Branding company, continues to develop various creative ventures and serve as an in-demand panelist and featured speaker at conferences around the world since graduating (and later serving as a faculty member) at Musicians Institute’s Music Business Program.

Hunter previously served as a board member for the foundation since 2017.

2019 Takamine Acoustic Guitar Scholarship Winner: Chase Carpenter

Musicians Institute and The Musicians Foundation are pleased to announce that current MI student Chase Carpenter is the recipient of the Spring 2019 Takamine Acoustic Guitar Scholarship.  Chase comes to MI’s Guitar Program from McHenry, Illinois with several years of acoustic and electric guitar experience, in multiple genres including rock, classical guitar, country and rock/metal.

Chase shared what has impacted him the most during his MI Guitar Program studies has been “gaining a greater understanding of complex music theory and being able to apply it to my music: key changes, modal interchange; charts. This understanding has changed me by allowing me to be more melodic and more creative in my playing/composing and has given me great inspiration. Being surrounded daily by teachers who encourage and provide what is needed to advance in the music industry has also been life changing.”

Chase sees his MI education as an important key to achieving his dream of one day being able to “encompass all aspects of the music industry; to become a high quality performer as a lead guitarist with range and expertise for longevity, to develop a performing persona and to play with a wide range of other performers. I also want to develop backup vocals, knowledge of recording, to manage the business of rights and agreements and to develop/manage my own band.”
