The 2019 President’s Award Vocal Scholarship has been awarded to current Musicians Institute Vocal Program student: Feiyang Ge. She comes to MI by way of China, having earned the prestigious award with over ten years of singing experience and a strong demonstration of her musical skills and specialization in singing pop songs and ballads.
Describing her reasons for coming to MI, Feiyang states, “I first learned about MI from a really great friend of mine, who is a student from MI. I began to research about the school, became fascinated by MI’s great musical environment and great teachers. The students are all actively involved in music together!
She sees her education as an important pathway to achieving her career goals of “being a great artist after I graduate from MI. I want to be an independent musician and set up my own music studio. I will create my own unique music and expand the possibilities of the music industry through my own voice and music and let the world be filled with love. I want my fans to be loyal to my music (rather than focus on appearances and packaging of music).”
She shared her feelings about winning the scholarship as follows, “I didn’t think that I could win this scholarship, this is such a surprise to me! I’m really grateful to win this scholarship, which gives me more confidence in my own voice and my performance abilities. I will definitely work harder while studying at MI to achieve my goals.”
Everyone at MI would like to congratulate Feiyang on winning this prestigious award.
Special thanks to MI’s longtime owner Histake Shibuya for generously sponsoring this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Feiyang with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.

Chase shared what has impacted him the most during his MI Guitar Program studies has been “gaining a greater understanding of complex music theory and being able to apply it to my music: key changes, modal interchange; charts. This understanding has changed me by allowing me to be more melodic and more creative in my playing/composing and has given me great inspiration. Being surrounded daily by teachers who encourage and provide what is needed to advance in the music industry has also been life changing.”
Chase sees his MI education as an important key to achieving his dream of one day being able to “encompass all aspects of the music industry; to become a high quality performer as a lead guitarist with range and expertise for longevity, to develop a performing persona and to play with a wide range of other performers.
