Robert Charles Carpenter with MI Librarian Julie Bill
He comes to MI by way of McHenry Illinois, (about an hour northwest of Chicago), having earned the prestigious award with a demonstration of his outstanding knowledge of library services and resources, and his essay discussing the importance of academic libraries and information literacy to students and the music industry at large.
Describing his reasons for coming to MI, Robert states, “I chose to study at MI because it’s the best choice for music education. The location and connection to the music industry puts it at the top of the list for all musicians. After touring the school and meeting the amazing staff I didn’t look anywhere else. I knew MI was the place for me to build the skills needed to succeed as a musician.”
Soon to be finishing his AA degree at MI next quarter and progressing into MI’s Bachelor of Music program, Robert shared a bit about his MI experience to date: “I’ve already learned so much from attending MI these past 5 quarters. I hope to continue to expand my knowledge not only on the guitar, but in all aspects of the music industry.
He added: “My education here at MI has been an important bridge in developing into a quality performer, as well as building relationships with fellow musicians. I play in an alternative blues/rock band called Green currently which I love! I was able to make the connection to the band through meeting a fellow musician here at MI. I also enjoy playing/performing modern country, pop, funk, rock, and all genres.
I hope to continue my path in developing the technical skills required for longevity as a guitarist, develop vocal experience, as well as gain more knowledge in recording and business management.”
Robert sees his education as an important pathway to achieving his long term career goals of being able to “make a living out of something I have so much passion for and to inspire others along the way. Thanks to the Musicians Institute I have been able to move closer to accomplishing these goals each day. With hard work and dedication, I will continue to work on developing more advance techniques, build a greater understanding of theory, and dive deeper into ways in which I can use the power of music to enhance the world around me.”
Everyone at MI would like to congratulate Robert on winning this prestigious award!
