CITY NATIONAL BANK MUSIC BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: Tyler Burgess

Tyler Burgess with MI Music Business Chair Stacy Turner

The Fall 2018 City National Bank Music Business Scholarship has been awarded to currently enrolled Musicians Institute Music Business Program student: Tyler Burgess.  The Murrieta/Temecula, CA native earned the prestigious award with a strong articulation of his professional goals and demonstration of outstanding dedication to achieving a position in the music industry.

Describing his reasons for coming to Musicians Institute, Tyler states, “I have always heard amazing things about MI and it has more than exceeded my expectations. The people we (as students) work with and get connected with never cease to blow my mind.  When I first visited MI (with some initial apprehension), I ultimately fell in love with the staff, the facilities and the opportunities I saw. I couldn’t turn it down and I’m glad I didn’t. I’ve progressed more in the past year at MI than I ever had in the 14 years leading up to my first quarter. I’ve been able to tour the states multiple times, record with Grammy Award winning producers, land endorsement deals and collect a long list of life-long friends that I now call family. As they say, “The program works if you work the program” and there’s not a more accurate phrase that I could use to describe Musicians Institute.”

While at MI, Tyler will continue his focus on “I initially started in MI’s guitar program but switched over to the music business program as I quickly realized the life-changing importance of understanding contracts and marketing. That’s what I intend on learning/expanding my knowledge on here at MI.”

He added, “I think the Music Business Program really puts the cherry on top of Musicians Institute. The wide variety of instructors here at MI are always willing to help you get plugged in and they all want to see you succeed. When a student succeeds, the instructors succeed, thus making MI a successful and thriving institution. We’re a team here and it’s a healthy family. Nobody “makes it” on their own.’

He sees his education as an important key to achieving his career goals.  Tyler described his future dreams and professional aspirations as follows:  “No matter where my musical journey takes me, I will continue to reach out and go to great lengths to allow music to do what it does best. Heal the heart, heal the mind and bring joy to anyone willing to listen. I have been in touch with local hospitals and local convalescent homes and will continue to work my way into the lives of those who need to hear the power of music.”

Everyone at MI would like to congratulate Tyler on winning this prestigious award.
