Musicians Institute Guitar Program student Seyoung Park (aka Loody Bensh) is the recipient of the spring 2018  ESP Rock Guitar Scholarship; which generously includes a tuition discount and a new ESP guitar!

Exciting Donation to Musicians Institute from PRS Guitars!

 

Thursday April 19th had the distinct air of a guitar player’s dream birthday party at Musicians Institute as six brand new top of the line PRS guitars arrived at MI!  The guitars new home is MI’s award-winning library, going into immediate circulation (and into student”s hands) for check out on 2-hour loan.

Students and faculty alike were ecstatic and excited to “get to know” these amazing instruments; take a look below:

SPRING 2018 UNIVERSAL CITYWALK HOLLYWOOD VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: SEYEON PARK

Seyeon Park 

The Spring 2018 Universal Citywalk Hollywood Vocal Scholarship has been awarded to Musicians Institute Vocal Program student: Seyeon Park.  The South Korea native earned the prestigious award with a strong demonstration of her versatile Jazz, Blues and Pop/Jazz musical skills.

Describing her reasons for coming to MI, Seyeon states, “I want to have many live performance experiences and learn systematic music theories.  The reason I chose MI is because it supports learning in a great environment.”

She sees her education as an important key to achieving her career goals of being able to “be a good, well-rounded musician.”

Everyone at MI would like to congratulate Seyeon on winning this prestigious award.

SPRING 2018 ESP ROCK GUITAR SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: SEYOUNG PARK (aka: Loody Bensh)

Musicians Institute is pleased to announce that Seyoung Park (aka Loody Bensh)  is the recipient of the spring 2018  ESP Rock Guitar Scholarship.  Seyoung comes to MI’s Guitar Program from South Korea with 7 years of serious rock guitar skills and a focus on heavy metal, rock, deathcore and metalcore styles.

Seyoung noted that while at MI, “I hope to study harmony, music theory, and learn about blues, and country guitar styles”.

He also shared his future career aspirations, which include: “playing with a worldwide metal band, and my own successful band and solo project.  I want to be the best heavy metal musician in my country.”

Everyone at MI congratulates Seyoung on winning this prestigious scholarship award, and we welcome him as he begins his studies and the many great experiences ahead at MI!

SPRING 2018 LIQUID CINEMA BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN COMPOSITION SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: BRENT ALLRED

Brent Allred

Brent Allred  is the winner of the Liquid Cinema Bachelor of Music in Composition Scholarship at Musicians Institute.  The newly enrolling Bachelor’s Degree in Composition Program (Scoring for Visual Media) student comes to MI by way of Selma, Indiana, having composed original music primarily in orchestral-based genres (as well as mixing electronic sounds with the orchestra), choral compositions and cinematic soundtracks.  

Upon learning about his award, Brent explained that he chose to study at MI because “MI is one of the only schools in the country that offers a degree in composing for visual media. Most music colleges require a primary instrument in order to obtain a degree. The strict focus on composition was appealing to me. I want to be fully immersed in writing music, instead of completing requirements that do not apply to my career interest.”

During his studies, he plans to focus on “developing my music theory knowledge so that I can bring clarity to my music, and intentionality.”

After MI, Brent’s three primary career aspirations are to:

“1) Develop a company that digitally renders composer’s compositions using the highest-grade sample libraries developed today.

2) Develop an organization that puts more money into the hands of the composer holding his/her intellectual property, cutting out third party marketing platforms such as ITunes, and Spotify. I have developed a new marketing model for music that I believe has the ability to revolutionize the distribution of music.

3) Develop a studio that creates music for motion picture and video games.”  

Everyone at Musicians Institute congratulates Brent on this achievement, which marks a great beginning to his studies. We look forward to seeing him reach his full potential while at MI.

SPRING 2018 MELODIC SOLOING GUITAR SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: ARTHUR AVILA III

Musicians Institute and The Musicians Foundation are pleased to announce that Arthur Avila III is the recipient of the Spring 2018 Melodic Soloing Scholarship.

Arthur comes to MI’s Guitar Program from El Paso, Texas with many years of playing experience and in possession of solid melodic soloing skills with a specialization in progressive rock and funk/fusion genres.

When asked why he chose to study at MI he added “I want to study my instrument to the fullest and learn the music industry. I believe MI is the only school that will help me achieve both, due to its diverse arena of music as well as its educators.”

He describes his professional goals and aspirations as follows: “my ultimate goal is to become an independent artist and share my music with the world. If I can inspire and influence others just with the power of music, that will be a dream come true.”

SPRING 2018 SEYMOUR DUNCAN GUITAR SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: SHUO ZHANG

The winner of the spring 2018 Seymour Duncan Guitar Scholarship at Musicians Institute is the talented Shuo Zhang who comes to MI from China.  The classic rock and blues guitar specialist explains that he chose to study in MI’s Guitar Program because “MI provides great resources and a great music environment, especially for modern music.  I look forward to making new friends who cherish the same ideals and follow the same path.   Also, so many musicians come to LA to chase their dreams; it’s the city of music in my heart.”

While at MI, he will focus on “improving my guitar technique and to practice harder and harder.  I know that if I want to be a musician, I can’t just play guitar. So I want to learn everything about modern music.”

Shou describes his longterm goals and aspirations as follows : “I want to make music be my career.”

Everyone at MI congratulates Shou on this achievement, which marks a great beginning to his studies. We look forward to seeing him reach his full potential while at MI.
