The Drum Program at Musicians Institute and The Musicians Foundation are pleased to announce that Sage Weeber, from Moline, Illinois has been named the winner of the prestigious Evans Drumhead Scholarship for fall 2016.

The Alternative/Ska/Funk drummer has been a touring and working drummer for the past 6 years.  Sage will focus on “learning how to better my skills, and also expanding my knowledge about technique, the drums themselves, and how to apply drum skills to real-life situations” during his studies at MI.

Upon receiving his scholarship award, Sage acknowledged that he chose to study at MI “because of the reputation, the list of teachers, and the knowledge that previous students have gained after graduating.”

He described his future professional goals as follows: “My dream and goal as a drummer is to be able to reach the widest audience possible using my skills and knowledge that I gain from MI.  Additionally, I’ll strive to be able to work with the best artists in the business and to create timeless pieces of music alongside them.

Everyone at MI congratulates Sage on this achievement, which marks a great beginning to her studies. We look forward to seeing him reach his full potential while at MI.

Special thanks to our longtime industry partner, Evans Drumheads and The D’Addario Music Foundation for generously sponsoring this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Sage with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.

Evans has been a pioneer in drumhead design for over 50 years and is a committed supporter and advocate of music education.
