The winner of the fall 2013 MI 35th Anniversary Drum Scholarship is O’Fallon, Illinois native Arthur Johnson who comes to Musicians Institute armed with 19 years of experience drumming in Jazz Fusion and Funk/Gospel music styles.
Upon learning about his award, Arthur explains that he chose to study at MI because “I hope to be a sponge at MI, I want to soak in as much as possible and completely understand my craft and fitting into various ensembles. MI is the best school for contemporary music and it fits perfectly into what I want my career to be”.
He adds “My goals are to network, become a clinician, play for various artists, and hopefully one day play drum set for a late night TV talk show”.
Everyone at MI congratulates Arthur on this achievement, which marks a great beginning to his studies. We look forward to seeing him reach his full potential while at MI.
Special thanks to MI’s family of Alumni, whose generous donations fund this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Arthur with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.
