The winner of the MI 35th Anniversary Guitar Craft Scholarship for spring 2013 is Martina Bergstrand, who comes to Musicians Institute from Sweden. Prior to enrolling at MI, Martina started a rock band and spent the last several years repairing guitars and working as a guitar tech-trainee at a local music store. She continues to enjoy playing classic rock as well as being a singer-songwriter.
Martina explains that she chose to study at MI’s Guitar Craft Academy because “going to MI and GCA has been a dream of mine since I was 16, especially because we don’t have the same possibilities or similar education in Sweden. Of course, I also wanted to live here in Hollywood.”
She adds “what I’m hoping to learn while studying at MI is to be able to create, design and build guitars and to understand the instrument from a technician’s point of view.” When asked about her career goals, Martina states “I would love to be a guitar tech for a band onthe road, design my own guitars, and have the incredible honor of working for Gibson.”
Everyone at MI congratulates Martina on this achievement, which marks a great beginning to her studies. We look forward to seeing her reach her full potential while at MI.
Special thanks to MI’s family of Alumni, whose generous donations fund this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Martina with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.
