The winner of the second annual Paiste Cymbals Scholarship at Musicians Institute is talented Chicago, Illinois native Justin Frazier, whose expressive cymbal technique and mature musical approach helped him to garner the scholarship award.

Justin is deeply passionate about music and has played drums since he was a small child. He cites his main style as R&B/Soul.

Asked why he chose to study in the Drum Program at MI, he states: “I hope to grasp the skill and control of playing within diverse genres, as well as picking up reading music again. I’m coming in with an open mind to learn everything that I don’t know and also to master the things I already knew.  I chose MI because I felt like the curriculum fit just for me. I felt like MI would be the perfect opportunity to network properly and learn at the same time.”

Justin’s vision for the future is: “My dream is to play drums professionally. Eventually, I would love to become the MD of a band, but I want to get my feet wet first by touring as the drummer for an artist.”

Everyone at MI congratulates Justin on winning this prestigious scholarship award, and we welcome him as he begins his studies and enjoys the many great experiences ahead at MI!

Special thanks to our industry partner, Paiste Cymbals for generously sponsoring this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Justin with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful careers in the music industry.
