MI 1977-1994 Alumni/Staff Reunion LPW’s and Open Counseling Announced!

We’re excited to get the first round of information about the Saturday afternoon LPWs out to everyone!

While there will still be some more song titles to add to the list, please have a look at the amazing playing opportunities below and visit the official reunion website for more information about the reunion!

LPWs (Live Performance Workshops) will be held at Musicians Institute from 12:30 to 4pm on Saturday. These are drop-in sessions designed to be open and fun for all. We provide the rhythm section, (as needed) and you BRING your guitar, bass, sticks, voice and enjoy!

We will have 20 solid body electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, 2 classical guitars and 8 electric basses available to loan to attendees from the MI Library, on a first come, first served basis.

BLUES LPW Keith Wyatt (leader)- Bring your own blues tunes.

FUSION LPW– Dan Gilbert (leader)- Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock, Man in the Moon by The Yellowjackets.

CLASSIC ROCK LPW Tom Kolb (leader)- Good Times Bad Times by Led Zeppelin, Tush by ZZ Top.

FUNK LPW Ross Bolton (leader)-  Sex Machine by James Brown, Love Rollercoaster by Ohio Players.

JAZZ LPW Howard Alden (leader)- Bring your own real book tunes.

HARD ROCK LPW– Danny Gill (leader)- Highway to Hell by AC/DC, Detroit Rock City by Kiss.

LATIN LPW Bruce Buckingham (leader)- Triste by Antônio Carlos Jobim, My Latin Brother by George Benson.

COUNTRY LPW Al Bonhomme (leader)- Guitars and Cadillacs by Dwight Yoakum, Mama Tried by Merle Haggard.

LULAPALOOZA LPW– Jami Lula (leader) – Superstition by Stevie Wonder, Waiting in Vain by Bob Marley. Vocal oriented, all are welcome.

OPEN JAM ROOMS– Several open rooms will be set-up with full backline for you to simply drop in and jam with your friends.

OPEN COUNSELING Jennifer Batten, TJ Helmerich and Allen Hinds will each be holding Open Counseling sessions from 12:15-4pm. These three drop-in sessions are open to all.

Ticket Information

MI students (no outside guests) should sign up (first come, first served) by Thursday March 23rd at 5pm, at the MI Student Affairs office to receive free admission (maximum of ONE ticket per student). 

After the VERY LIMITED free ticketing allotment has been filled, MI (and all other) student tickets are $20 with valid school ID.

2012 Stanley Clarke Scholarship

Stanley Clarke wants YOU!!

Attention! Talented (current) MI students are invited to apply and submit their DVDs for the prestigious Stanley Clarke Scholarship at Musicians Institute.

Stanley is looking for the best, brightest and most talented musicians at MI!

Two grand prize winners will be awarded a tuition discount and cash prize package of $9,000 each. Three runners-up will win a tuition discount and cash prize package of $2,000 each.

This scholarship will be determined on the basis of musical talent, performing ability, stage presence, musicianship and charisma in any style or genre of music.

Please visit our scholarship website for all information, application details and deadlines. This scholarship is open to CURRENT MI performance program students ONLY.

The Finals Performance event (with the top five finalists) will be held at MI on April 26, 2012 at 8pm.   This event will be open to the public, and will feature celebrity judges who will also perform with the finalists. More details to released in March.
