Last night, I was very proud to be a part of the historic fundraising Gala for the Hollywood Central “Cap Park” on behalf of Musicians Institute.
The park is envisioned as a 44 acre street level park that will be built OVER the Hollywood (101) Freeway and stretching nearly 1.5 miles. The park will provide desperately needed urban green space and state of the art recreational facilities for thousands of Hollywood residents, students, and visitors alike. The expected cost of the project is said to be $1.2 billion.
For the event, MI provided a superb jazz trio comprised of MI instructors: Karen Hammack (K), Lynn Keller (B) and Andy Megna (D). Also in attendance were luminaries LA Mayor Villaraigosa, Congressman Adam Schiff, Councilmembers Garcetti and LaBonge, actor Darryl Hannah, and hundreds of Hollywood business and community supporters.
The Hollywood Central Park project is another exciting facet of the tremendous growth and revitalization of Hollywood, and will eventually provide our community with the green space it needs, create thousands of jobs, and actually help to unite “East” and “West” Hollywood by cutting down on urban density, mitigate auto emissions, and provide a community resource for all to enjoy!
