The 2011 Seymour Duncan Guitar Scholarship has been awarded to Luis Felipe Villar, whose outstanding musicianship and creative voice as a guitarist helped him to garner the first iteration of the prestigious annual scholarship.
The scholarship was created with the generous support of Seymour Duncan Pickups and Pedals to honor its namesake and founder, inventor Seymour Duncan and the efforts of all emerging guitar players to develop their own unique voice.
The multi-talented Luis comes to MI from Colombia, and describes his playing as spanning all genres; “mostly everything from Jazz to Metal.”
While at MI, he hopes to learn as much as he can by playing as often as possible with students and teachers in order to help him develop and create his own “sound and language, and create my own musical world.”
Everyone at MI welcomes Luis to the fall class of the Guitar Program (GIT), we congratulate him on winning this very exciting award!
Special thanks to our new industry partner, Seymour Duncan Pickups and Pedals for generously sponsoring this scholarship, which helps to provide talented students like Luis with the support, tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.
