The Jazz Bakery at Musicians Institute welcomes the return engagement of the Tomasz Stanko Quartet, featuring Stanko (trumpet) and his current New York band: Craig Taborn (piano), Thomas Morgan (bass), and Jim Black (drums). Stanko, who performed to an electrified and appreciative audience at MI in 2010, returns for one show only on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 8:30pm in MI’s Concert Hall.
This show is open to the public (see ticketing information below).
The internationally-acclaimed Polish trumpeter, composer and bandleader received the 2002 European Jazz Award and the 2004 and 2005 Australian Bell Awards for Best Jazz Album of the Year. One of the few European jazzmen with an equally strong reputation in the US, he was voted one of Down Beat magazine’s “Top Ten Trumpeters” in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and received praise from both The New Yorker (“One of the most original and creative jazz trumpet players in the world…”) and the New York Times (“Trumpeting Freedom: in Spirit, Thought, and Jazz…“).
MI students (no outside guests) should sign up by Friday 9/23 10am, at the MI Student Affairs office to receive free admission (maximum of two tickets per student). After the free ticketing allotment has been filled, MI student tickets are $15 with MI ID.
