Seymour Duncan Sponsors Guitar Scholarship at Musicians Institute!

The Seymour Duncan Guitar Scholarship was created thru the generous support of Seymour Duncan Pickups and Pedals to honor innovative guitar legend Seymour Duncan.

The $7,000 scholarship (tuition credit) will be awarded in Fall 2011 to a newly enrolling intermediate or advanced student (US or non-US citizens) in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, and the potential for developing their own individual sound or unique voice on the instrument in any style or genre.

The deadline for the scholarship application is Sept. 12, 2011.

Legendary master jazz guitarist, Jim Hall (now 80 years old),  has been making records for close to a half-century. He’s worked with everybody from Sonny Rollins to Pat Metheny and played everywhere from the Village Vanguard to the White House.  His live and recorded collaborations with Bill Evans, Paul Desmond, and Ron Carter are legendary and he has earned widespread acclaim for his skills as a composer and arranger.  Named an NEA Jazz Master in 2010, Hall performs and records with a variety of ensembles around the world. He has recorded fifteen CDs on Blue Note Records as a leader and launched his own label, “Inner Circle Music” in 2008.

He brings his current quartet to the Jazz Bakery at MI series, for his first-ever visit to MI!!

MF Exec. Director joins Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors!

Stanley Clarke wins Grammy!

Congratulations from everyone at Musicians Institute to Stanley Clarke for last night’s Grammy win in the Contemporary Jazz Album category: The Stanley Clarke Band, “The Stanley Clarke Band”!

The collaborative album features Hiromi, Ruslan Sirota and Ronald Bruner, Jr. as well as Stanley’s iconic and virtuosic talents as bassist and leader.

Stanley is a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from MI and is currently a Board member for our non-profit organization: The Musicians Foundation as well as the creative force and sustaining sponsor of the Stanley Clarke Scholarship at MI since 2002.

This year’s Grammy nod is well deserved for an innovative, expressive and fresh take on the contemporary jazz idiom!


New 2011 Scholarship for Guitar Students Announced

The Mitch Faber Memorial Guitar Scholarship was created to honor the memory, talent and artistic career of GIT alumnus (class of 1981) Mitch Faber; and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a newly enrolling Guitar Program (GIT) student at Musicians Institute.

The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2011 to a new student (US or non-US citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, and the potential for developing their own individual sound or unique voice on the instrument in the Blues style.

The deadline for the scholarship application is Sept. 12, 2011.
