2011 Stanley Clarke Scholarship Winners Announced!

Congratulations to all five finalists who performed for a cheering, near-capacity crowd and celebrity judges in the MI Concert Hall for the 10th annual Stanley Clarke Scholarship at Musicians Institute!  When the final votes were tallied, the top two scholarship prizes ($12,000 Musicians Institute AA Degree Program tuition and cash) were awarded to:

Runners-up (one week MI Summer Shot program scholarship):

 

Kenny Strickland, Bass (Mission View Public School, Santa Clarita)

 

Ashley McCabe, Guitar (Oaks Christian School, Westlake Village)

 

Stanley Jeong, Drums (Taft High School, Woodland Hills)

Following an incredible and inspiring set of three songs performed by the judges, (from the left: Jimmy Paxson Jr., Bunny Brunel, Percee P, Ruslan Sirota, Stanley Clarke, Larry Dunn, Greg Phillinganes,Howard Hewitt, Marisol Nichols,George Duke,Doug Webb; not shown- Taylor Dane,Chris Coleman,Luisa Dunn,Universal).each scholarship finalist took the stage to perform two songs of their choice. The finalists (all high school seniors) showed tremendous talent and passion playing a range of styles from Classic Rock to Funk, Pop, Hip-hop, Heavy Rock and more, each performer consistently impressing the audience and A –list judges alike.

On behalf of Stanley Clarke and his wife Sofia (and their continued generous support for this scholarship and music education); all of us at Musicians Institute want to congratulate the five finalists on their exceptional performances and to thank all of the families, friends and band mates for their invaluable support.
