|Sheila E. Holds Elevate Hope Fundraiser|
On July 25, internationally-renowned pop star, Latin-jazz percussionist, and recent MI Honorary Doctorate recipient Sheila E presided over a star-studded fund-raising event benefiting the Elevate Hope Foundation.
The event featured intimate live performances by Sheila E. & pop songstress Katharine McPhee (with MI instructor Brian Allen on bass). Twenty lucky MI students, along with MI VP and Musicians Foundation Director Beth Marlis, attended the event courtesy of VIP tickets provided by Ms. Escovedo. The Musicians Foundation and Elevate Hope are developing plans for possible future collaborations.
Co-founded in 2001 by Escovedo and business manager Lynn Mabry, the Elevate Hope Foundation (EHF) funds special services and programs that provide abused and abandoned children with alternative therapy through music and the arts. EHF exclusively supports the Vista Del Mar Arts Enrichment Program in West Los Angeles, which serves both severely emotionally disturbed youth and children with autism spectrum disorder and other pervasive developmental disorders. Vista Del Mar’s Arts Enrichment Program provides creative, experiential classes in acting, dance, voice, art, drumming, design, music recording, song writing, choir, and photography.
